He was predeceased by: his parents, James J. Smith and Alma Bessie Smith (Stokes); and his spouse Marion Smith (Truesdale). He is survived by: his children, James M. Smith, Jr. of Lowell, Linda Gallagher (Peter) of Lowell and Janet Pinto (Gilnei) of Wilmington; his grandchildren, Emily and Evan Pinto; and his sister Inez of Florida.
