He was predeceased by: his daughters, Donna Lawlor (William) and Patricia Porter; and his sister Jeanne Meskew. He is survived by: his wife Mary "Marie" (O'Malley); his children, Linda McCloud (late Michael), Robert Schindler (Susan), Diane Lawler (late Brian), James Schindler (Kimberly), Thomas Schindler (Kimberly) and Maureen Cullen (Vincent); his siblings, Albert Schindler and Elizabeth Atkinson; and his siblings-in-law, John and Saundra O'Malley. He is also survived by 23 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren and Papa the great to 5 great grandchildren.
