He was predeceased by : his wife Maria Lurdes Ponte (Moniz); his parents, Manuel Ponte and Maria Carolina Ponte (Moniz); and his son Jorge Ponte. He is survived by : his children, Carlos Ponte, Jose Maria Ponte, Veneranda Medeiros, Maria G. Carreiro, Lucia Tavares and Luisa Amaral. He is also survived by twenty two grandchildren, and sixteen great-grandchildren.
