He is survived by : his parents, Waldo H. Rice and Anne Rice (Gilmore); his son Jonathan; his wife Janet; his sisters, Nancy Armstrong and Anne Gainey; his children, Jamie Chalker (Don) of Chatham and Peter Rice (Amy) of Brewster; his granddaughters, Parker Rice of Newton, MA and Briannah Rice of So; his former life partner Polly of So Orleans, MA; and also, Amy of Santa Barbara, CA, Melanie of Charleston, SC, Ally of La Jolla, CA and Kaitlin of Portland, ME.

Sadly, Janet developed Alzheimers, but Jim was a devoted caretaker while his beloved Janet could be at home, and a faithful daily visitor when later she needed more care.
