He was loved and cherished by many people including: his spouse Catherine Hassam (Dempsey) of Quincy; and his siblings, Estelle Coughlin of Quincy and Mayhew Hassam of Maine. He was also cherished by his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Memorial donations may be made in Johns name to Boys Town, his favorite charity that he faithfully supported, Boys Town, 200 Flanagan Blvd., Boys Town, NE 68010.
