Elizabeth A. St. Germain Obituary

Elizabeth Ann "Betty Ann" St. Germain (née Sullivan), 82, of Rockport, Massachusetts, passed away on March 5, 2024. Born on January 11, 1942, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late Edward Sullivan and Mary Gallinaro Sullivan.

After graduating St. Mary's High School in Waltham, MA, and Framingham State College, Betty Ann became a respected leader in her professional career as the Executive Director of Human Resources at Duracell International from 1978 until 1998. Her career at Duracell took her to many company plants domestically and internationally from Singapore to Hong Kong, England, Australia, France, and Ireland.

Her interest in teaching became a reality early in her married life when the family moved to Billerica and she began teaching CCD classes at St Theresa's Parish, eventually administrating the town-wide program to 600 students.

In the late 60s as a young mother, she became involved with the Cesar Chavez Labor Movement organizing picketing at local grocery stores for selling non-union products with her children in tow. She took early retirement in 1998 to pursue her passions in political activism and literature after settling in the picturesque town of Rockport, MA. Betty Ann's dedication to community service was evident in her work at Wellspring House, her work as a docent at the Shalin Liu Performance Center, and her role in local and national politics. She became the North Shore Campaign manager for Senator Elizabeth Warren's and Representative Seth Moulton's campaigns as well as campaign strategist for several Rockport selectmen races. Her literary contribution came in the form of her novel "Sabbatical," published in 2015, which reflected her creativity, insightful nature appreciation for the present moment, and understanding of the complexity of human nature.

Her legacy is carried on by her devoted husband of 61 years, Paul St. Germain; her children Mark St. Germain, Christopher St. Germain and his wife Megan, and Nicole Nascimento and her husband Daniel; her seven grandchildren, Taylor, Olivia, Luke, Hunter, Nathaniel, Shane, and Vivienne; and her brothers Edward Sullivan and his wife Kathy, and Robert Sullivan and his wife Barbara. She was predeceased by her brother Richard Sullivan.

Betty Ann will be remembered for her unwavering kindness, empathic nature, and witty humor as well as her steadfast commitment to her family and the many lives she touched.

The family is profoundly grateful to the nursing staff at Beverly Hospital as well as Dr. Maan for their kind and compassionate hospice care, and Greely Funeral Home for their care and support during this time is deeply appreciated.

Though no services are planned at this time, a Celebration of Life will be held in June, with a date, time, and location to be determined. Her spirit of generosity can be honored through contributions to Pine Street Inn, Home for Little Wanderers, Open Door, Wellspring House, or the Thacher and Straitsmouth Islands Association.

Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Glouceser, MA has been entrusted to handle all arrangements.
