He was predeceased by: his parents, Vincent J. Viola and Angelina E. Viola (Pasquin); and his sibling Thomas Viola. He is survived by: his wife Louise K. Viola (Kelley); his children, Kathryn L. Viola of New York City, NY, Robert F. Viola, Jr. (Lynda) of Houston, TX and Timothy J. Viola (Kate) of Clarksburg, MD; his grandchildren, Michael, Kevin, James, Grace and Andrew Viola; and his siblings, James Viola of Michigan and Judith Hathaway. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
