He was predeceased by: his parents, George Sutherland and Agnes Sutherland (Bryant); his child Glen Sutherland; and his sister Ida Guimond. He is survived by: his wife Lorraine Sutherland (Bergeron); his sons, Bruce J. Sutherland (Shirley) of Swansea, Michael Sutherland (Cynthia) of Swansea, Marc J. Sutherland (Heidi Medeiros) of Swansea and Scott Sutherland; and his siblings, Agnes Southwick, Edna Barlow, Thelma Sutherland, Sally Morin, Helen Brindle, Ethel Burns, George and William Sutherland. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews.
