Jose S. Sousa Iii Obituary

SWANSEA, MA - Jose S. Sousa, III, 84, a resident of Swansea for the past forty-two years, died Tuesday, February 9, 2010, at his residence. Born in Calhetas, Sao Miguel, Azores, the son of the late Jose S. Sousa, Jr. and the late Maria DeJesus (Machado) Sousa, He was the husband of Noemia Dos Anjos Ferreira (Silva) Sousa, with whom he shared a sixty year marriage.

He worked for the Parks Corporation in Somerset for many years retiring in 1990. Mr. Sousa was a communicant of Saint Louis de France Church in Swansea. He enjoyed working on the dairy farm, gardening and wine making. In addition to his wife, Mr. Sousa is survived by a daughter, M. Merces Soares of Swansea, MA; three sons, Joseph F. Soares and his wife Linda of Warren, RI, Norbert Soares of Swansea, and Manuel Soares and his wife Lillian of Somerset, MA; six grandchildren, Maxanne Wordell, Kelly (Soares) Gunn and her husband Michael, Eric Soares, John Carreiro, Matthew F. Soares and Samantha Soares; a great-granddaughter, Erin Gunn; and also several nieces and nephews.

He was the father of the late Joao Luis Soares and brother of the late Manuel Soares DeSousa, Maria Da Luz Soares Rego, Sarafina Soares Sousa and Laureno Machado Sousa. Funeral Information His funeral service will be held Saturday, February 13, 2010, at 9:00am from the HATHAWAY COMMUNITY HOME for FUNERALS, 900 Buffinton St., Somerset, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in Saint Louis de France Church, 56 Buffinton St., Swansea, with burial to follow in Saint Patrick's Cemetery, Somerset.
