He was predeceased by: his parents, Frank Carpenter and Madeline Carpenter (White); his daughter Donna David; and his sister Edna Bridges. He is survived by: his grandchildren, Matt, Ashlie and Taylor; his wife Barbara J. Carpenter (Moore); his children, Judi Carpenter of Methuen, Paul Carpenter, Jr. of Laconia, NH and Susan Jones (Chris) of Billerica; his grandchildren, Kellie David and Matthew David; his great grandchild Ella Donna David; his brothers, Frank Carpenter, Charles Carpenter, Robert Carpenter, Richard Carpenter, Edward Carpenter, Joseph Carpenter, Chester Carpenter and Walter Carpenter; and his sister-in-law Charlotte Stewart of Wilmington. He is also survived by one of 10 siblings, many nieces and nephews.
