He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Paul V. Nelson and Dorothea Nelson (Atchison); his wife Margaret Fuerstenau (Mickie); his daughters, Lisa (Peter Komarek) of Edina and Julie Nelson-Gal (David) of Palo Alto; his grandsons, Maxwell, Tobey, Jackson Nelson-Gal of California, Brady and Nelson Komarek of Minnesota; and his siblings, Dorothy J. Healy of Alamo and Lawrence P. Nelson. He was also cherished by nieces, nephews and many dear friends.
