He was predeceased by: his parents, James Thomas Marshall and Lena Harris Marshall; his siblings, John Thomas Marshall and Myrtle Faye Marshall; and his son Charles Butler.
He is survived by: his children, Catherine Marshall of Baltimore, Bertha Marshall-McKinney of Baltimore, Stephanie Marshall of Baltimore, Tonya Butler of Charlotte, Richard Lewis Marshall Jr. of Baltimore, Marcus Marshall of Baltimore, James C. Marshall of Baltimore and Craig Lamont Butler of Troy; and his siblings, Bobby A. Marshall of Biscoe, James E. Marshall of Carteret, NJ, Daniel C. Marshall of Fredericksburg, VA., Darlena M. Biggers of Falls Church, VA, Nancy L. Drake of Charlotte, Doris Steele of Mt. Gilead, Ethel Horne of Troy, Edith Rector of Lorton, VA and Sharoyn Marshall of Centennial, CO.. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces, and other relatives and friends.
