He was predeceased by: his parents, John Joseph McCarthy II and Marian E. Fretz McCarthy. He is survived by: his wife Diane McCarthy; his children, Joseph, Timothy, Pamela, Kathy, Thomas and Susan; and his stepdaughters, Debbie, Laura and Jennifer. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren.
