He was predeceased by: his former wife Wanda Mertz (King); his parents, Crist Preston Mertz (Bub) and Lucile Julia Mertz (Smith) of Hagerstown; and his brother-in-law Wallace Lee Ridenour. He is survived by: his wife Friday March; his sisters, Rosalie Ridenour and Connie Hardy; his uncle Oscar Smith Jr. (Ester); his grandmother Vergie Smith; his children, Diana Leatherman (Denny), Sharon Fiddes (Jerry), Ronald Mertz Sr. (Mary) and Donald Mertz Jr. (Wendy); his grandchildren, Becky, Chris, Jennie (Curtis), Bob, Josh, Ronald Jr. (Lori), Melissa (Jason), Samantha (Mark), Justin (Jackie), Emily (Kevin), Ben (Caitlin), Nick, Sean (Mia), Patrick and Sarah; and his great grandchildren, Jacob, Madison, Emma, Jillian, Camden, Luke, Alexandra, Elijah, Natalie, Aubree, Robert and Aiden.
