He was predeceased by : his parents, Elwood Thorton and Elizabeth Louise Reynolds Sampson; his son William Joseph Sampson; and his brothers, Robert, Rick and Elwood Sampson.

He is survived by : his wife Diane Susan Joseph Sampson; his son Timothy Sampson of Lineboro, MD; and his brother Seth Sampson of Maryland.
