He was predeceased by: his parents, James Benson and Susan Hansen Benson; and his sisters, Jimmie Roland, Elizabeth Foskey and Louise Thompson.

He is survived by: his wife Shirley M. Stivers Benson. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and in laws.
