It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Joseph F. Carven Jr. of Kittery Point, Maine, who passed away on November 27, 2021, at the age of 82, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph F. and Elizabeth Carven Sr. (Healey); and his brother William Carven. He is survived by: his sons, Joseph F. Carven III (Julie) of Amesbury, MA, Timothy W. Carven (Sybil) of Kittery Point, ME and James M. Carven (June) of South Hampton, NH; his sisters, Elizabeth Gallagher, Carol Mathisen (John) and Virginia Doyle (Mike); and his granddaughters, Molly-Kate, Abigail, Caroline and Sarah. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to a Parkinson's Disease Charity of one's choice.

“I first met Coach in 1966, shortly after he was named Varsity Football Coach at Portsmouth High School. I was 16 years old and had no idea how big an impact this remarkable man would have on my life. To be sure, he was a magnificent Leader; smart, strong, confident, fair and very inspirational.. He made us winners, but his impact reached far beyond that. He conducted himself in such a way, that he was a perfect role model for how we should approach life. I will always be grateful for him.”
