He was predeceased by : his parents, John J. Sr. Murphy and Dorothy Claire Murphy; and his brother-in-law Lawrence Field. He is survived by : his wife Gerri; his children, Sara Thistle (Jeremy) of Turner, Heather VanDeusen (Derrek) of Leeds and Sean Murphy of South Portland; his siblings, Mary Field (Rick Leland), John J. Murphy Jr. (Jaye) and William Murphy (Angela Berry); and his grandchildren, Jayna, Brynn Thistle, Madailein and Dominic VanDeusen. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and many good friends.
