He was loved and cherished by many people including : his spouse Lee; his child Johnene Koganti (Chandru); his grandchildren, Navya, Raveena and Tarun; his son Michael O'Connell; his sibling Terry Baumeister; his cousins, Thomas O'Connell of Michigan and Sheila O'Grady of Colorado; and his parents, William O'Connell and Mary O'Connell. He was also cherished by numerous nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.

In lieu of flowers the family encourages those who are able to donate blood, or to financially support the American Red Cross.
