He was predeceased by: his parents, Virgil Ashbay and Clara Ashbay (Poulson); and his sister Phyllis Conley. He is survived by: his wife Esther VanderVlught; his children, Mark Ashbay of Cadillac, Paul Ashbay (Mari) of Cadillac, Sue Whipple (Aaron) of Lake City and Sarah Burkhart (James) of Mount Pleasant; his nephew Michael Johnson of Grand Rapids; his great grandchildren, Henry, Julian and Sawyer; his stepgrandchildren, Brooke and Kaycie; his stepgreat-grandchildren, Sophia and Josiah; and his sisters, Edith Janell Williams of Manton, Valerie Larr of Manton and Bethel Eckert of Fife Lake. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
