He was predeceased by : his parents, Lawrence Brandt and Dorothy Brandt. He is survived by : his wife Luan; his sons, Joshua (Jamie) and Aaron (Paulina); and his siblings, Thomas, James (Beverly) and Barbara. He is also survived by his four granddaughters.

Memorial contributions in Paul's honor can be given to Concordia University Ann Arbor.

John Orosey wrote a sympathy message

“I remember a trip to Florida in college with Paul, Mark Despres, Tom Hayes, Tom Boyle and myself. We all bleached our hair with Sun-In... I think we thought we were the beach boys. We had some great laughs and good times. Too many Frat brothers taken too young. Paul was a good man, and I was lucky to know him. Unfortunately, due to a family commitment I am unable to attend the memorial service. My thoughts and prayers are with Paul's family. John Orosey”
