He was predeceased by: his parent Melvin Slyke; and his brothers, Sid Van Slyke and Phillip Van Slyke. He is survived by: his parent Irene Van Slyke (Trevarrow); his spouse Patricia Ann Aitken (Christensen); his children, David Aitken (Liz), Jeffrey Aitken (Sherry), Joel Van Slyke (Peg), Mary Aitken and Michele Van Slyke; his grandchildren, Jacob, Danielle, Corey (Lindsey), Chase, Kaine (Christa), Kevin (Skye), Kerry, Jessica Ryan (Troy), Devin, Nathan (Lyndsay) and Collin; his great grandchildren, Tanner, Gracee, Liam, Grayson and Guinevere; his sister Torrey Van Slyke (Phil Martel); and his sister-in-law Sherron Van Slyke.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
