He was predeceased by: his parents, Russell Shurte and Betty Shurte (Maltby); and his sister Carol Sinclair. He is survived by: his wife Jan; and his daughters, Francis Falconer of Flint, Beth Smekar (Matthew) of Ludington, Cindy Hasenauer (Robert) of Fraser, Julia Dohse of Flagstaff, Arizona, Christine McCann (Matthew) of Essexville and Debi Willy of Bay City. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and one great, great granddaughter.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 16th 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the First Presbyterian Church of Elk Rapids (404 Spruce St, Elk Rapids, MI 49629). A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 16th 2025 at 12:00 PM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions may be made in Don's name to First Presbyterian Church, to Elk Rapids Community Food Cupboard or Acme Christian Thrift Store.
