She was predeceased by: her parents, John Arnold Merrill and Ruth Hummon Merrill (Hummon); and her brother John William Merrill. She is survived by: her husband Bruce Nieuwenhuis; her stepchildren, Dirk Nieuwenhuis (Mary Procopio) of Flint and Kristin Nieuwenhuis; and her sister Elizabeth Bert (John) of Interlochen. She is also survived by 5 step-grandchildren and 5 step-great-grand children.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Mary Nieuwenhuis Memorial Music Scholarship at Mott Community College. Donations to the music scholarship can be made in Mary's name through the Foundation for Mott Community College.
