He was predeceased by: his parents, Leonard Thelen and Rose Thelen (Schomisch); his daughter Tammy Fox; his great grandchild Gunner Thelen; and his sister Judy Finkbeiner.

He is survived by: his wife Patricia Ann Braska; his children, Wendy Armbrustmacher (Jeff) of Fowler, MI, Amy Martin (Alan) of Fowler, MI, Richard "Rick" Thelen II (Jessica) of Fowler, MI, Tina Thelen (Jon) of Westphalia, MI and Shelly Martin (Gary) of Fowler, MI; his son-in-law Bruce Fox of Fowler; his grandchildren, Kyle Armbrustmacher (Kendra), Chelsea Crisler (Evan), Mitchell Armbrustmacher (Ashley Bowers), Kristal Thomas (Josh), Dylan Armbrustmacher, Brittany Thelen (Eric), Alyssa Gurk (Garry), Ashlyn Martin, Austen Martin (Kenzie), Ambrea, Kaylah Thelen, Richard Thelen III, Collin Thelen, Ellie Thelen, Kassidy Thelen, Makenna Thelen, Jadyn Thelen, Landon Thelen, Wyatt Martin, Savanah Martin and Hunter Martin; and his siblings, Gary Thelen (Sue), Dale Thelen (Dottie) and Sandy Steed. He is also survived by 8 great-grandchildren, 2 great step grandchildren.
