He was predeceased by: his parents, Theodore Dings and Ellen Dings (Theuer); and his brother Timothy. He is survived by: his wife Margaret Dings of Gladwin; his children, Deana Fox (Cory) of Coleman and Robert T. C. Dings of Beaverton; his grandchildren, Austin, Ethan, Taylor and Christen (Nick); and his sister Elizabeth Harrison. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
