Ronald J. Curtis Obituary
Ronald Jesse Curtis, affectionately known as Ron, loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away peacefully on April 27, 2025, at Gladwin Pines Nursing Home. Born in Indianapolis, Indiana, to the late Earl and Adeline Curtis, Ron's life was marked by devotion to his country, his family, and his community.
Ron met and married the love of his life, Nancy Kay Moore, on June 30, 1962. Their union was a testament to enduring love, as they celebrated 62 years of marriage filled with joy, challenges, and countless memories. Ron proudly served his country in the United States Navy, a chapter of his life that instilled in him a sense of duty and honor that he carried throughout his years.
Ron's legacy continues through his two loving children, Carrie (Bryan) Pickvet and Ronald Jr. (Linda) Curtis. He was a cherished grandfather to seven grandchildren: Patrick (Michelle) Pickvet, Aaron (Christy) Pickvet, Ryan (Layce) Pickvet, Ashley (Jordan) Wilga, Kila (Joe) Bell, Christina Canady, and Ronald J. Curtis III. He also delighted in the laughter and growth of his twenty-one great-grandchildren, each of whom brought him immense pride and happiness.
A hard worker all his life, Ron retired from General Motors in 2004 after a 24-year career as a journeyman tool and die maker. His dedication to his craft was apparent to all who worked alongside him. In retirement, he continued to serve his community by driving a school bus for Standish Sterling Schools and working at Northwoods Outlet in the fishing department. His commitment to helping others shone brightly when he assisted his longtime friend Ladd White at the canoe livery.
Ron's passion for the outdoors was undeniable. An avid fisherman, he found solace and joy in the quiet moments by the water. A member of the Horton Ranch, he took pride in teaching his grandsons to shoot their first deer, passing on traditions and fostering a love for nature in the next generation. He was an avid golfer, he was also the assistant coach for JV and Varsity baseball. Above all, Ron cherished the time spent with his family, recognizing that these moments were the most precious gifts of all.
Those who knew Ron would describe him as thoughtful, selfless, and loving. His actions spoke volumes, as he consistently put the needs of others before his own, offering support and kindness without expectation of return. Ron's presence was a comforting constant in the lives of his loved ones, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
