He was predeceased by : his parents, Arien Hoogerwerf and Ann Hoogerwerf; his sister Adriana Kommer; and his brothers-in-law, Andrew Kommer Jr. and Eugene Fritz.
He is survived by : his wife Judith; his children, Nancy, Scott Visser, Linda Jackobs, John and Connie Hoogerwerf; his grandchildren, Dave Lewis, Brandon Comstock (Colby Foreman), Michael, Trisha Hoogerwerf and Joey Hoogerwerf; his siblings, Joanne Fritz and Ronald; and his brother-in-law Ronald. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and many close friends.
