He was predeceased by: his parents, John Schermer and Tina Schermer (Cynthia); his parents-in-law, Francis and Marge Merryman (Marjorie); his brothers-in-law, Ralph VanMaanen and Burt Plaggerman; his brother Peter; his sister-in-law Ardys Schermer; his niece Cynthia Mallory; and his great-nephew Curtis VanMaanen.
He is survived by: his wife Shirley Schermer (Merryman); his daughters, Janet Waldmiller and Beth Ferguson (Kevin); his grandchildren, John Waldmiller, Rick Waldmiller, Jenni Schaeffer (Regan) and Joshua Ferguson; his great grandchildren, Lukas Waldmiller, Bennett and Graham Schaeffer; his siblings, Norma Plaggerman, Verna Mae VanMaanen, Harvey Schermer (Lois), Bruce Merryman (Dianne) and Sue Bos (Jerry); and his nephew Jeff Schermer. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and caregivers.
