He was predeceased by: his parents, Martin Balk and Clara Balk (Reidel); his sons, Richard Scott Balk and Melvin Lawrence Balk; and his siblings, Mary Ellen White (Garvey), Lawrence Balk (Leona), James Frederick Balk and Robert Frederick Balk.
He is survived by: his children, Crystal Schipinski (Daniel) of Cass City, Martin Balk (Dena) of Montana, Garry Balk (Tammy) of Romeo, Judith Balk of Minnesota, Cynthia Nowiski of Tennessee, Dianne Mazure (Michael) of Jenison, MI, Paul Balk of Harbor Beach, Patricia Grifka (Scott) of Ubly, John Balk (Cindy) of Cadillac and Matthew Balk (Blanca) of Florida; and his sisters-in-law, Connie Shaw of California and Eleanor Balk of Alabama. He is also survived by 46 grandchildren, 75 great grandchildren.
