He was predeceased by: his wife Mary Machiela. He is survived by: his children, Barb (Allen Van Someren), Chris (Gary Edgerly), John (Jan Machiela), Tom (Marianne Machiela), Karen (Mike Katje) and Joyce (John Emelander); his sister Jeanette Diemer; and his brother-in-law Ken Wittingen. He is also survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
