He was predeceased by: his parents, Herman Smeyers and Cornelia Smeyers (Connie); his parents-in-law, David and Edith VanderKooi; and his siblings-in-law, Ron Sal, Maris VanderKooi and Mickey VanderKooi (Martha).
He is survived by: his wife Sharon; his children, Todd (Kim Smeyers), Tricia (Edward Kosten), Georgia, Marc (Laura Smeyers) and Melissa (David Fuglseth); his grandchildren, Madeline Smeyers, Natalie Englert (Tyler), Jordyn Smeyers, Brody Smeyers, Briana Kosten, Kaitlyn Kosten, Ashley Kosten, Colin Kosten, Tyler Smeyers, Josiah Smeyers, Micah Smeyers, Mackenzie Fuglseth, Brooklyn Fuglseth, Avery Fuglseth and Willow Fuglseth; and his siblings, Roger (Linda Smeyers), Nancy Sal, Daryl VanderKooi, Bob (Cheryl VanderKooi), Joan (Jay Scholten) and Deb (Jerry Bosgraff). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
