He was predeceased by : his parents, Reuben "Jake" and Lois Gariepy (Vivian); and his sister Jan Kotajarvi. He is survived by : his wife Jean Allen of Lake Linden; his son Chris Gariepy (Jessica) of Lake Linden; his grandsons, Jakob and Kaden; his sister Laurie McLeod (Dan) of Bootjack; and his brother-in-law Mel Kotajarvi of Lake Linden. He is also survived by aunt, uncle, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
