He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, John Jennings and Dorothy Kates (Reade); his former wife Florence Wiseman; his wife Dorothy Louise Parker; and his sons, John Jennings Kates (Margo) of Indianapolis, James Reade Kates (Sharon Schmeling) of Jefferson, Joseph Woolsey Kates (Michelle) of Fairbanks, Thomas Curtis Kates (Jennifer) of Holland and Robert Wight Kates (Marcy) of Holt. He was also cherished by ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
