He was predeceased by: his grandson Tyler Schmitigal; his son-in-law James Hurlburt; his brother Lawrence; his sister-in-law Wilma Schmitigal; his sisters, Stella (Eugene Willis), Marion (Ray McConkey) and Dorothy (Art Bielas); and his siblings-in-law, Phyllis Schmitigal, Frank Handziak, Walter Jankewicz and J. C. Walther.
He is survived by: his wife Marjorie Elaine Rutledge; his children, Linda Snyder (Brian) of Sault Ste, Marie, Lisa Hurlburt of Bluffton and Christopher Schmitigal (Micky) of Pickford; his granddaughter Jill Schmitigal; his siblings, Conrad Schmitigal, Harold Schmitigal (Barbara), Ken Schmitigal (Dianne), Eugene Schmitigal (Linda), Irene Handziak, Gina Jankewicz, Fran Walther and Bonnie Newnum (Steve); and his aunt Theodorsa O'Polka. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
