Eugene R. Yacks Obituary
Eugene Robert Yacks, a man of loving spirit and generous heart, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2026, in his hometown of Bay City, Michigan. Born on November 14, 1954, to the late Russell and Ethel (Lewis) Yacks, Eugene's life was a testament to the enduring power of love and family.
Eugene's journey through life was marked by the cherished bond he shared with his wife, Kathleen. United in marriage on December 29, 1997, in Grayling, Michigan, their partnership was a beacon of devotion, celebrating 28 years of shared dreams and adventures. The legacy of their love lives on through their sons, Eugene Yacks Jr. and William Yacks, their granddaughter Kellie Osterhout, and great-granddaughter Madison Osterhout, each a reflection of Eugene's kindness and wisdom. He is also survived by two sisters-in-laws: JoAnn and Kim James and a brother-in-law David (Pam) James.
Eugene's professional life was dedicated to General Motors UAW Local 467, where he offered his intelligence and commitment until his retirement in 2002. His work ethic and camaraderie were hallmarks of his career, earning him the respect and friendship of his colleagues.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Eugene found joy in the simple pleasures of life. His affinity for the natural beauty of Michigan's Upper Peninsula was well known; he and Kathleen would often embark on long rides; their hearts open to the discovery of new places and the embrace of scenic tranquility. A man of diverse interests, Eugene relished the quiet competition of ice fishing, the camaraderie of playing cards, and the excitement of trips to the casino. Yet it was in the company of his family that Eugene found his greatest happiness, cherishing every moment spent in their presence.
Eugene's life was marked by the virtues of kindness and generosity. He had a rare ability to light up a room with his intelligence and to make everyone around him feel valued and loved. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him, but his spirit will continue to inspire and guide us. Though he has departed from this earthly realm, Eugene's influence remains as a guiding force in the lives of his family and friends. He was predeceased by his brother Leo Yacks and sister Ann Haight, and a brother-in-law Jeremy James, who welcomed him into the next chapter with open arms.
