He was predeceased by : his parents, Leonard John and Evelyn M. Wolgast (Ganske); his son Derek Wolgast Sr.; and his siblings, Jerry, Diane and Linda.

He is survived by : his son Matthew (Rebecca) of Portage, Michigan; his grandchildren, Bryce, Josye, Maxwell, Derek Jr. and Dominic; and his sister Juanita Soregenfrei (Neil) of Moltke. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
