He was predeceased by : his parents, Harmond Nichols and Emma Nichols (Gibson); his brother Jeffrey Nichols; his sister-in-law Susan Herringshaw; and his nephew Michael Hutchinson.

He is survived by : his former life partner Kathryn Lynn VanVliet; his wife Kathy; his children, Deanna Orlando (Steve) of Brighton and Andy Nichols (Lee) of Caro; his grandchildren, Alyssa Orlando, Lauren Orlando, Dallas Andrew Nichols II, Jacob Nichols, Jeremy Trout and Kristin Goetschy (Grant); his great grandchildren, Ryan, Thomas and Abigail; his siblings, Philip J Nichols (Kathy) of Decker, Pamela Ouvry of Cass City and Douglas Nichols of Decker; and his siblings-in-law, Richard VanVliet (Mary Jane) of Cass City, Christine Little of Cass City and Douglas Herringshaw of Caro. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Novesta Church of Christ or the American Cancer Society Relay for Life.
