He was predeceased by: his wife Helen; his parents, Joseph O'Brien and Elsa O'Brien; and his siblings, Robert, John (Jack), Judy and Barbara.

He is survived by: his children, Michael (Kathy), Tom (Dianne), Mary (Gary Clapp), Patrick (late Barbara), Chuck (Sue), Bill (Claire) and Joe (Joy); his grandchildren, Meg O'Brien (Terry Dull), Erin Evans (Gary), Cara O'Brien (Chester Winowiecki), Mari Birman (Mike), Amy Klamkin (Chris), Dan Amori (Shannon), Tim O'Brien (Anna), Patrick O'Brien (Kate), Katie Klebonis (Dave), Shawn O'Brien (Amy), Shannon O'Brien (Sean O'Neal), Liam O'Brien, Luke O'Brien, Caitlin Hotchkiss (Will), Mike O'Brien, Kelly O'Brien and Dan O'Brien; and his sisters, Kathleen Sims of Auburn, JoAnn Perry of Palm Desert and Delores Ericson of Covina, Calif..

Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic and order from the State of Michigan, face masks must be worn at all times, proper social distancing is required and guests are limited to 25 individuals at a time.
