The memory of Buryl James Hughes of Tawas City, Michigan, who passed away on January 9, 2026 at the age of 95, will forever remain in the hearts of those touched by this precious presence in their lives. He was predeceased by: his parents, James Hughes and Anastasia Hughes (Michalski); his wife Irene "Tootie" Lorenz; his children, David Hughes and Susan; his grandson Mark Gosen; his siblings, Charlotte "Pat" Martin, Dora Lintz and Neal Hughes; and his siblings-in-law, Chet Martin, Jim Lintz, Chum Lorenz and Daisy Lorenz.
He is survived by: his children, Denny Hughes (Janet), Barb Lenczewski (Mitch), Ken Hughes (Renee), Joan Stroede (Bruce), Donna Dear (Joe), Patty Bigham, Tom Hughes (Mary) and Sharon Yates (Terry); his daughter-in-law Brenda Hughes; and his siblings-in-law, Bernie Lorenz and Joan Lorenz. He is also survived by 21 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 17th 2026 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Holy Family Catholic Church (516 W Lincoln St, East Tawas, MI 48730). A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 17th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
