He was predeceased by: his parents, Ray Spencer and Nora Spencer; his wife Judy; and his brother Vincil. He is survived by: his friend Daren; his children, Kevin Spencer (Sandy) of Sterling Heights, Deborah Spencer (Keith Heller) of Juneau and Rebecca Taylor (Bryan) of Lansing; his grandchildren, Philip, Adam, Katherine (Tom Hennessey), John, Daniel, Mary, Hope, Matthew, Grant and Claire; and his great grandchild Elise June.
Not the most patient man by nature, Merrill developed a gentle humor and tenderness later in life as he cared for Judy, who suffered from Alzheimers; and later as his own health declined, needing the care of others.
