He was predeceased by: his parents, Anton Schummer and Mary Schummer (Schmitt); his son Bradley Schummer; and his siblings, Alvin, Jack Schummer and Beverly Hanson.

He is survived by: his wife Bonnie Schummer of Bemidji; his daughter Jodi Lindsey (Mike) of Bemidji; and his sister Leona Traut. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.
