He was predeceased by: his parents, Carl Thiel and Clara Thiel (Holte); and his siblings, Ramona Chealander, Blanche, Vernon, Russell and Daniel.
He is survived by: his wife Ruth Howe of Bemidji; and his sisters, Shirley Froseth (Jerry) of Bemidji, Janet Galven of Anoka and Jean Ryan of Mantorville. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
