He was predeceased by : his parents, Peter O. Hjelmen and Mathilda Hjelmen (Helgeson); his wife Goldie Hjelmen; his second love Cora Lee Emanuel; his daughter Mary Hjelmen Gifford; his siblings, Howard, David Hjelmen, Myrtle Ginn and Dorothy Onstad; and his grandson Michael John Hjelmen.
He is survived by : his sons, Steven Hjelmen of Blooming Prairie, Richard Hjelmen (Renee) of Garretson and Michael Hjelmen (Tammy Bordeaux) of Blooming Prairie. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and cousins.
