James Brakken Obituary
With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of James Brakken (Alexandria, Minnesota), whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on June 12, 2025 at the age of 87. Family and friends are welcome to send flowers or leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
As we bid farewell to this cherished soul, solace is taken in the memories held dear — the laughter shared, the wisdom imparted, the moments of quiet reflection in their presence. Though James may no longer walk among us, his spirit lives on in the echoes of his kindness, the warmth of his embrace, and the light of his enduring love.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Sam Brakken and Hellen Brakken; his daughter Sheryl Brakken-Feely; and his sisters, Gretchen Engstrand (Oscar) and Suzanne Johnson (Loren).
He is survived by: his wife Shirley Ann Hermes of Rose City; and his children, Sharyn (Paolo Bentgarmicha) of Ashby, Brenda (Tony Paper) of Fargo, Douglas (Kim) of Barrett and Jamie (Londa) of Carlos. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and many nieces.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 18th 2025 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and on Thursday, June 19th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 19th 2025 from 11:00 AM to 11:45 AM at the First Lutheran Church (1655 S McKay Ave, Alexandria, MN 56308). A burial will be held on Thursday, June 19th 2025 from 12:00 PM to 12:15 PM at the Kinkead Cemetery (530 Agnes Blvd NW, Alexandria, MN 56308).
