He was predeceased by: his parents, Harold Benson and Phyllis Benson (Hanson); and his brother Don Benson. He is survived by: his wife Patricia Petersen; his children, Pete, Jay Benson (Jeanette), Lyn Johnson (Kevin) and Peter Benson (Rachelle); his grandchildren, Courtney Whalen (Jason), Brooke Von Arx (Paul), Jessie, Bailey Benson, Nate, Karin, Elise Johnson, David, Aaron, Luke, Paul and Keziah Benson; his sisters, Nancy Harty (Keith) and Julie Stadheim (Ronnie); and his sister-in-law Ruth Benson.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, the family will celebrate Tom's life with a private service.
