He was predeceased by: his parents, Emil Erkkila and Sophie Erkkila; and his wife Ellen "Abby" Volkert. He is survived by: his stepsons, John Volkert Jr. and Jer Volkert (Deb); and his stepgrandchildren, Nicolette, Tyler Volkert and Jeremiah Volkert.
