He is survived by: his mother Virge Ann Peterson (Brecht) of Hector; his brother Scott Peterson (Mary) of Sauk Centre; his close friend Shelly Lange of Stewart; his sibling's children, Randy Peterson (Rachel) of Starbuck, Amanda Quinlan (David) of Monticello and Kelly Peterson (Trevor Zastrow) of Long Prairie; his great-nephews, Evan Quinlan, Nolan Peterson and Garrett Peterson; and his great-niece Natalee Quinlan. He is also survived by many other aunts, uncles, relatives, and friends.
