He is survived by: his brother Ed; his children, Pam Mergens, Earl Mergens Jr. (Chimene), Paul Mergens (Teresa), Mike Mergens (Alisa) and Shelly Griffin (Joe); his grandchildren, Leah Hochstein (Ben), Michael Griffin (Abigale), Justin Mergens (Maria), Jacob Mergens (Elizabeth), Zachary Mergens (Kierstin), Amanda Mergens, Jonathan Mergens (Troy Schillinger), Hannah Ellingson (Jaden), Brittany Mergens, Kaylee Mergens and Mikayla Mergens; and his great grandchildren, Andrew Hochstein, Jackson Hochstein, Marli Hochstein, Archer Griffin, Jo Griffin, Bryant Ellingson, Cecilia Ellingson, Eli Mergens, Levi Mergens, Whitney Mergens, Breckyn Mergens, Brinley Mergens and Oakley Mergens.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, October 14th 2025 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church (1043 Lake Ave, Detroit Lakes, MN 56501). A Mass was held on Tuesday, October 14th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the same location.
