He was predeceased by : his parents, Carl Parendo and Lucille Parendo (Marnich); and his siblings, Janice Barr, Vernon and Gordon.

He is survived by : his wife Cheryl Nelson; his daughters, Paula Carlson (Bruce) of Hermantown and Missy Finnelly (Jason) of Duluth; his grandchildren, Sam Carlson and Allison Finnelly; his brother Dennis Parendo (Sharon) of Duluth; and his sister-in-law Jane Hagen (Irvin). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.
